Dialysis RN

• Oversees performance of safe and effective dialysis following all applicable guidelines.

• Ensures that dialysis procedure consents are obtained, and dialysis orders are written prior to the initiation of dialysis and are implemented and administered correctly.

• Assesses and reassesses the patient's condition and response to dialysis treatment.

• Communicates abnormal findings of assessment and/or changes in patient condition to physician and/or primary care nurse or nursing management.

• Documents care and changes in patient condition; takes appropriate actions when needed.

• Documents completion of nursing interventions, results of assessments, and patients' response to care and services received.

• Demonstrates knowledge of and compliance with all policies including, but not limited to, care of the dialysis patient, medication administration and patient care activities.

• Considers patient safety and takes initiative to identify and eliminate risks for the patient.

• Considers patient comfort and need to control pain when planning and delivering patient care.

• Communicates and collaborates with other departments to coordinate care.

• Successfully completes all assigned training on or before due date and annual skills competency as determined by the hospital based on new responsibilities, specialized equipment, high risk/problem prone/or low volume procedures including but not limited to waived testing, application of restraints, and emergency response techniques.

• Ensures dialysis machines and equipment are maintained in good working order, meeting all regulatory requirements.

• Adheres to all infection prevention practices and demonstrates best practice principles for dialysis vascular and peritoneal access care.

• Support nursing staff in education and performance of peritoneal dialysis procedures.

• Precepts nurses on dialysis equipment and dialysis standards of care.

• Provides education to patients on dialysis.

• Identifies specific discharge needs and communicates with Case Manager.

• Organizes, plans, and manages time effectively to complete assignments.

• Meets position requirements and performs essential functions.

• Completes mandatory training and courses required by completion date.

• Reports questionable situations, concerns, complaints, or harassment immediately

Credentials:

  • Current RN licensures appropriate to state regulations.


  • BLS certification required.


  • ACLS within 1 year of hire or upon hire if required by state regulation.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Six months dialysis nursing experience required.


  • One year of experience inpatient hospital setting preferred. Inpatient rehabilitation experience preferred.


Machines, Equipment Used:

  • General office equipment such as computer/laptop, telephone, copy/fax machine, calculator, scanner, etc.


  • Microsoft Office software, to include Outlook, Word, and Excel. Tablo dialysis machine.


Physical Requirements:

  • Visual acuity, speech recognition, speech clarity.


  • Ability to lift, lower, push, pull, and retrieve objects weighing a minimum of 30 pounds including medical supplies and equipment and the transferring and repositioning of patients. Reasonable assistance may be requested when lifting, pushing, and/or pulling are undertaken which exceeds these minimum requirements. Ability to withstand prolonged standing and walking.


  • Ability to reach, stoop, bend, kneel, and crouch are required for patient care functions and in setting up and monitoring


  • equipment.


Skills and Abilities:

  • Oral communication, written communication, active listening. Must be able to speak and understand English.


  • Information ordering, deductive reasoning, social perceptiveness, time management, critical thinking.


  • Ability to coordinate, analyze, observe, make decisions, and meet deadlines in a detail-oriented manner.


  • Ability to work independently without continuous supervision.

• May work under stressful circumstances at times.

Proficiency or Productivity Standards:

• Has regular, reliable, and predictable attendance and punctuality.

• Adheres to dress code including wearing ID badge.

• Adheres to Standards of Business Conduct.

• May be required to work weekdays and/or weekends, evenings and/or night shifts if needed to meet deadlines.

• May be required to work on religious and/or legal holidays on scheduled days/shifts.

• May be required to perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
