Position Purpose

The Director of Communications & Content oversees the execution of the content strategy to support the Company's strategic marketing priorities. The director also manages and guides the Company's internal communications strategy to support the Company's strategic priorities and marketing plan. With an emphasis on content planning and management, the position works to manage and edit content and tactics that address the holistic needs of the Company across multiple audiences, channels and platforms to increase awareness and drive growth.

Responsibilities & Tasks

  • Manages the Marketing Services Department's integrated content strategy plan
  • Manages editorial planning and strategy, driving content ideas to the proper channels and setting appropriate project timelines
  • Ensures the implementation of Company messaging across all channels in marketing, communications, digital and branding projects to maintain consistency of messaging
  • Regularly evaluates effectiveness of content and implements new approaches and strategies to achieve marketing and communications objectives
  • Draws on audience and market-specific data to determine optimal messaging, channels and timing for different stakeholder segments
  • Understands the corporate strategy and business objectives in order to tie content and communications work directly to desired business outcomes
  • Oversees internal communication channels and manages editorial planning and strategy
  • Regularly evaluates internal communications effectiveness and implements new approaches and strategies to improve engagement
  • Uses research methodologies to preemptively surface areas of employee input and feedback and reports to company leaders and the Marketing Services department
  • Uncovers internal partners' communication needs and priorities to provide a data-driven direction
  • Develops an understanding of cross-functional subject matters as well as audience understanding and delivers news and information to all areas of the business, working with corporate departments and senior leadership to target appropriate employee audiences, methods of delivery and timing of information's release
  • Effectively leads and manages the internal communications and content team to ensure execution of the Marketing Services Department's integrated content strategy plan
  • Serves as an advisor to corporate departments and senior leadership on internal communications strategies to align various projects with company strategy, carries out the identified content and communication objectives, and selects outcome-focused metrics and tracks progress in implementation
  • Partners with ITG to identify, use and integrate technology that will increase the effectiveness and timeliness of internal communications
  • Oversees employee and volunteer events in collaboration with the marketing team and human resources
  • This position must sit in Birmingham, AL
  • This position offers a hybrid schedule


  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in a communications role with responsibility for internal communications
  • Demonstrated written and oral communications proficiency
  • Practical experience developing a wide range of communication tools (website/intranet, email, video, print, etc.)
  • Experience communicating cross-functional subject matters
  • Experience analyzing and targeting varying audiences for appropriate delivery methods
