Position Purpose

 

 The Public Relations Specialist supports the Company and the Marketing Services department through media relations and public relations initiatives at the regional and local level. The position works closely with a variety of departments at the Home Office and our hospitals in the field to coordinate media interviews, cultivate and maintain media relationships, and monitor and report media coverage. The Public Relations Specialist has a supporting role in hospital events and community-based projects. The goal is to maintain awareness of our inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, the Company and its brand with our key audiences and the local communities in which we operate. 

 

Responsibilities & Tasks

 

  • Develops proactive media pitches for individual hospitals, including developing press releases, researching local media opportunities, identifying media contacts, and assisting with the pitch. 

  • Collaborates with Senior Manager of Public Relations to implement public and media relations campaigns in alignment with strategic topics to create public and brand awareness for local hospitals. 

  • Cultivates and maintains relationships with key local media outlets across the Companys national footprint. 

  • Cultivates and maintains relationships with local leaders and clinicians (CEOs, Business Development Directors, nurses, etc.) 

  • Support media crisis and issues management efforts in local hospital markets 

  • Monitors national and local media coverage and develops monthly public relations reports. 

  • Compiles media lists for local markets. 

  • Researches and tracks local and regional thought leadership initiatives for hospital CEOs and regional vice presidents, including speaking engagements, awards and editorial opportunities.

  • Develops talking points and coordinates interviews with local and regional media outlets. 

  • Maintains the Companys online Newsroom platform. 

  • Drafts social media and website content to promote media stories across digital platforms. 

  • Supports communications needs for new hospitals and events. 

  • This position must sit at our Home Office in Birmingham, AL

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors in communications, marketing, or related field required. 
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a communications/public/media relations role with responsibility for external communications. 
  • Demonstrated written and oral communications proficiency. 
  • Practical experience developing a wide range of communication tools (website, press releases, video, TV, print, etc). 
  • Experience fielding local media inquiries
