Each April, we celebrate Occupational Therapy Month, a time to recognize occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants who help people regain independence and return to the activities that matter most in their daily lives.
Established in 1980 by the American Occupational Therapy Association, Occupational Therapy Month highlights the important role more than 230,000 occupational therapy professionals play in supporting health, well-being, and quality of life across the lifespan. From children developing new skills to adults recovering after illness or injury, occupational therapy practitioners help patients participate in meaningful activities at every stage of life.
Occupational therapy focuses on helping individuals live as fully and independently as possible. This includes supporting activities of daily living such as dressing, bathing, eating, working, learning, and engaging in hobbies and routines that bring purpose and connection. Throughout the month, practitioners and supporters share stories, educate communities, and raise awareness about the positive impact of occupational therapy.
At Encompass Health, occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants play an essential role in the rehabilitation journey. Our OT professionals provide direct patient care, complete detailed assessments, develop personalized treatment plans, and guide patients through each stage of recovery. Just as importantly, they build meaningful relationships with patients by understanding their physical, emotional, and personal goals. Along the way, they celebrate milestones both big and small as patients regain confidence and independence.
Occupational Therapy Month is an opportunity to recognize the dedication, compassion, and expertise our OT teams bring to patients and families every day. We are grateful for the commitment occupational therapy professionals show to improving lives and strengthening the communities we serve.
Thank you to all occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants for the care you provide and the difference you make each day!
