The first role you land after completing your education can help you discover more about what you’re looking for in a career. It’s an exciting yet nerve-wracking time, to say the least! At Encompass Health, we know how important that first step is, and we’re proud to be a place where new graduates can start strong and grow with unwavering support.
That’s why we provide structured onboarding, mentorship and the resources to continue your education, achieve certifications or achieve the personal goals you have for yourself in this early-career phase. Ultimately, we want all new grads and early-career professionals that walk through our doors to feel supported and confident as they start their career journey. To do so, our recruiters gathered a few pieces of advice to help you as you navigate applications and interviews so you can be sure to show up as your best self and land that next role:
1. Highlight your clinical experience
Even as a new grad, you’ve already gained valuable experience through school-based clinical rotations and volunteer work. Make sure those experiences are clearly listed on your resume. Hiring managers and recruiters want to see what settings you’ve worked in and what you’ve learned along the way.
2. Keep your resume clean and organized
Formatting does matter. Your resume should be easy to read and organized in reverse chronological order. Group clinical experiences separately, and include any relevant certifications, licensures or expected exam dates. This helps recruiters connect the dots quickly and better understand you as a candidate!
3. Don’t forget the details
Small details go a long way in making a strong first impression – things like listing your licensure status to include clear contact information, proofreading carefully and always double-check spelling and grammar.
4. Prepare thoughtful questions
Always come to interviews with a few questions prepared—about the role, our benefits, our approach to care or whatever else you’re curious about! This shows you’re intentional about where you want to grow. Our recruiters are happy to answer any questions to give you a better idea of the overall Encompass health experience.
5. Explain why you’re choosing inpatient rehabilitation
Inpatient rehabilitation is different from many other hospital settings. Be prepared to explain why this setting interests you and how it aligns with your goals. Showing that you’ve thought about where you want to be—and why—helps recruiters see your potential and your fit on the Encompass Health team.
By following these five tips, you’ll be better prepared to take on your first role with confidence and clarity. If you’re ready to take the next step and start building a career that’s close to home and heart, apply to one of our open roles today!
