Position Purpose
The Deputy Chief Medical Officer (DCMO) serves as a key clinical and administrative leader in the company, supporting the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in overseeing the quality, safety, and effectiveness of medical care across all inpatient rehabilitation facilities. The Deputy Chief Medical Officer works closely with senior management, Physician Advisory Board, the national chairpersons for the Quality, Nursing, Case Management, Therapy and Pharmacy Advisory Boards, National Director of Medical Services, and Regional Presidents. This individual has a collaborative relationship with the Compliance Department and other corporate departments such as ITG, Legal, Risk, and Operations. This person adheres to and supports the mission, purpose, philosophy, objectives, and policies of the company. The Deputy Chief Medical Officer assists the Chief Medical Officer with quality improvement initiatives and clinical strategic direction.

Responsibilities & Tasks
-    Mentor and support medical directors across the company in achieving excellence in patient care and operational performance.
-    Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and retention of rehabilitation physicians.
-    Educates and trains all Hospital Medical Directors on ACE-IT and any other applicable company systems, admission criteria and physician documentation, including those elements relevant to CMS's Conditions of Participation and Medical Necessity.
-    Guides the implementation of medical and quality care within the company.
-    Assists with monitoring clinical dashboards and physician performance metrics including ACT, and readmission rates to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
-    Provides rehabilitation physician onboarding guidance to company hospitals.
-    Collaborate with the CMO and executive leadership on strategic planning, growth initiatives, and any service line developments. 
-    Interfaces with Medical Staff at facility and regional levels to ensure a valid analysis of patient admissions, clinical quality and outcomes, physician documentation and ACE-IT implementation.
-    Reviews and analyzes effectiveness of medical and clinical services against standards or best practices, with strategies and plans for education in the areas of company-wide clinical outcomes and trends in patient satisfaction for all aspects of delivery of care with strategies for improvement.
-    Stays abreast of changing regulatory requirements to organize and coordinate activities that ensure compliance with clinical, professional and accreditation standards and regulatory responsibilities.
-    Develops and implements education and training related to changes in regulatory and/or reimbursement trends.
-    Conducts on-site visits with CEOs and Medical Directors to ensure consistency to accreditation standards and regulatory requirements.
-    Supports collaborative relationships with physicians, hospitals, and other ancillary providers in community as needed.
-    Provides review services for utilization management, Operations, quality management, and peer review.
-    Reviews medical records at the direction of the CMO.
-    Provides support as needed for national level meetings (i.e., MDM).

License or Certification
-    Licensed to practice as a Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine in applicable state.
-    Board Certified in area of Specialty; PM-R, Geriatrics and Neurology are particularly relevant.
 

Minimum Qualifications
-    M.D. or D.O. required.
-    Minimum 10 years Clinical experience, and minimum five years management experience with an emphasis in the inpatient rehabilitation service area/setting.
