Finding a job that’s rewarding and supports you in your individual goals can be hard to come by. We understand that the right job is one where you feel empowered to grow, encouraged to pursue what you believe is possible for yourself and supported every step of the way. At Encompass Health, we believe in providing careers close to home and heart, where you’re not just close to your home in the physical sense, but you’re also part of a team that feels like family, united by a shared commitment to patient care.
Glenda Wagoner, a part-time receptionist at Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Katy, found exactly that at Encompass Health.
After relocating to Katy, Texas, Wagoner began her journey with us in a role that was vital during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic — screening temperatures and monitoring visitors in the evenings. As she looked ahead toward retirement, she was still eager to stay active and involved in meaningful work. That’s when she transitioned into a part-time receptionist position in our Hospital Support department, where her warm and welcoming presence quickly became a familiar part of the patient experience. The flexibility and sense of purpose this role offered made it the perfect fit for this new chapter in her life.
What stood out to her the most wasn’t just the work itself, but the people she got to work with every day. She expressed that there’s a shared sense of respect, collaboration, and compassion amongst all staff, from hospital leadership to clinicians.
“It is a place for healing and regaining independence, and everyone puts their best foot forward to support each other, our patients and their families,” says Wagoner. “Whether you’re providing care, welcoming patients or supporting operations behind the scenes, every team member knows their work is contributing to something greater and is surrounded by a strong community that truly lifts each other up.”
When Glenda reflects on what’s kept her at Encompass Health, she points to something that’s made all the difference: the encouragement and mentorship she’s received in transitioning from her role as a screener to her role as a receptionist. Through the guidance of her supervisor and the hospital’s leadership team, she’s been able to grow professionally and strengthen her understanding of how the hospital operates.
“Their support has helped me become more confident in my role and better equipped to assist patients and families,” she says. “I’ve gained knowledge I never expected to learn in this position, and that’s because the people here genuinely want to see you succeed, no matter what your role is.”
Glenda’s story is just one example of the many career journeys that begin—and thrive—at Encompass Health. When you work at Encompass Health, you’re more than just an employee—you become a vital part of your community’s support system. As part of a growing national rehabilitation leader, you’ll find purpose in your work, connection with your team, and the chance to make a meaningful difference each day.
