Why networking matters in health care careers (and how to do it well)

In today’s digital age, most of our professional connections start online. Whether you’re a nurse, therapist, or health care leader, platforms like LinkedIn and Indeed make it easier than ever to connect with others in your field—locally and globally. The internet brings together communities of professionals who exchange ideas, gain new perspectives and build relationships with others who share similar interests and career goals.

Networking is just as important in health care as it is in any other industry. Building relationships with others in your field can open doors to mentorship, collaboration and career advancement, just to name a few! With ample online tools available, health care professionals have more opportunities than ever to expand their professional circles.

At Encompass Health, we believe that professional growth thrives in community. That’s why we’re proud to partner with leading health care organizations to support our employees at every stage of their careers. Through these partnerships, our team members gain access to advanced educational resources and extensive networks of professionals beyond Encompass Health. They also provide our employees with a unique advantage—keeping them informed and engaged with the latest industry trends and evolving practices within inpatient rehabilitation.  In a field as dynamic as health care, staying connected and “in the know” is key for both seasoned therapists and early-career clinicians alike.

A few of our valued partners include:

Association of Rehabilitation Nurses (ARN): Encompass Health employees receive discounts on exam registrations, educational products and webinars through ARN’s Learning Center, as well as access to CRRN® prep content and conference attendance opportunities.

American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA): Through the ASHA Learning Pass, audiologists and speech-language pathologists can access more than 700 practical, evidence-based courses to earn ASHA CEUs. Group Learning Access provides our employees with unlimited learning opportunities at a discounted rate.

American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA): Our partnership gives occupational therapists access to professional development tools, industry research and national networking opportunities.

American Physical Therapy Association (APTA): Physical therapists benefit from clinical resources, continuing education and access to events that bring together PT professionals from across the country.

National Student Nurses’ Association (NSNA): For nursing students and recent graduates, NSNA offers leadership training, educational tools and early career networking opportunities.

Encompass Health is proud to partner with these organizations and many more to provide one-of-a-kind professional benefits that help our employees stay connected and empowered.

If you’re not part of the Encompass Health team yet, that’s okay! Networking is something everyone can practice and benefit from. Getting started can feel intimidating, but the key is to simply start—and to stay consistent.

  • Show up and engage. Join relevant health care groups on LinkedIn, follow industry pages and comment on posts from thought leaders in your field. A simple “like” or thoughtful comment can help you build visibility and connection.

  • Keep your profile active. Update your professional headline, add recent certifications and share articles or insights from your work. Staying active online helps others (especially recruiters!) see your expertise and can lead to new opportunities.

  • Connect with intention. When sending connection requests, include a short note about why you’d like to connect. Whether it’s a fellow therapist, a recruiter or a conference speaker, a personal message goes a long way in starting genuine professional relationships.

Staying connected at Encompass Health

At Encompass Health, we’re here to help you build those connections and reach your full potential—because when we grow together, we make a greater impact on the patients and communities we serve. Join our team today by exploring open roles on our careers page here!
