Avoid including personal details like hobbies and be sure your contact information is appropriate—this means retiring that email address you created in middle school! A professional tone sets the stage for how potential employers perceive you from the start. For students, consider applying to jobs with your personal email since you likely won’t have access to your student email address in the future.
- Tailor your resume to the role you’re interested in
One of the biggest mistakes job seekers make is submitting the same resume for every role. Take time to tailor your resume for the position you’re applying for by highlighting relevant skills and accomplishments. For example, if you’re interested in a leadership position, emphasize specific examples that showcase your leadership abilities.
