Midland keeps commutes short, with wide roads, light traffic and most drives under 20 minutes—so more of your day goes to the things you’d rather be doing. Loop 250 circles the city, and Interstate 20 connects Midland and Odessa in about 20 minutes. Midland International Air & Space Port offers nonstop flights to Dallas, Houston, Denver and other major hubs, which makes traveling easy.

West Texas sunsets are the main event, and Midland has plenty of places to watch them. The I-20 Wildlife Preserve and Sibley Nature Center offer trails and birding close to town, while Monahans Sandhills State Park—an hour west—has dunes you can sled down. Big Bend National Park is a four-hour drive south, ready whenever you’re due for a weekend of canyons, desert and dark skies.

The Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center brings Broadway tours, headline concerts and the Midland-Odessa Symphony to town. The Museum of the Southwest pairs art galleries with a planetarium and children’s museum, and the quarterly Midland Art Crawl turns downtown galleries, cafés and pop-up venues into a free, self-guided evening of local art and live music—a good excuse to get to know your new neighbors.
